A Family of Fun!

It was my pleasure to head out of doors one recent evening for a photography session with a family of six!  We had a ton of fun and got some really great quality pictures.  These images will serve as a reminder of this stage in the family life for years to come.  It was my pleasure to photograph this lovely family and it is my privilege to share a few pictures with you!

The beach...

Our family had an amazing day at the Gulf Coast recently!  Padre Island National Seashore is a beautiful place to enjoy the natural beauty and solitude of the coast.

We had a ton of fun.  Later in the afternoon, I was reminded how light can make a picture so special.  A feathered friend stopped by and stood around while we played in the sand.  The sky was overcast at that point, the beach and the water reflected the light so that there were no shadows, and the ocean and the sky seemed to blend into one in the distance.

I think outdoor photography is some of the best lighting and background for portraits of family and children.  Even in beach clothes, potraits of the kids were beautiful!

Summer evenings are a great time for quality photography of you and your family!

A morning stroll

This family of geese decided to take a morning stroll down our street the other day!  They actually stopped traffic on a nearby thoroughfare as cars stopped to assist them across the road.  A great time to have a zoom lens on the camera!

School Pictures!

School Picture Day!  The announcement goes out on the intercom system and in the school newsletter in early autumn. In the halls they hang posters of nice-looking kids dressed in solid colors against beautiful backdrops.
When picture day arrives, everyone looks very nice - though few are wearing solid colors - and soon the announcement comes for the students to file down to the gymnasium.  Present your name at the table, walk right over here onto the X, stand straight and tall, smile, click, you're done.  Another year, another mediocre school picture.
It doesn't have to be this way!  For starters, why do we have school pictures at the beginning of the school year?  Spring would be a wonderful time for pictures.  And why do the posters always have different backdrops than the drab gray one that actually shows up in the school gymnasium?  Outdoors or soft lighting would be nice.  And the photo packages?  WAY overpriced.

A couple things you can do right now to get a great school picture:
     1.  Think about what you want in a school picture of yourself or your child.
     2.  Contact me, Andrew, at the number or email listed on this blog.

Let's make a school picture memory that you will treasure for years to come!

Spring has sprung! A great time for quality portraits

Spring is here!  The clocks have been changed and Easter has come and gone.  Flowers and trees are blooming, green grass is growing (not to mention the weeds!), and the days are getting longer.  Spring is a great time to take beautiful outdoor portraits of families, children, or events.  The best outdoor light is found in early morning or evening.  So get outside, have some fun, and let someone take some excellent quality photos of you and your family.  You will treasure those photo memories forever!

Serenely Spring!

I primarily shoot outdoor photos.  To get a quality photograph like this I am trying to consider the following:

Subject or Model

Background

Light

Mood

This portrait was taken right here in Roswell, NM in the evening light with a two year old model in a spring dress and pretty hairdo.  The background is some of the beautiful flowering trees on the NMMI campus, and I think the mood is serene.

Your own personal colors...

Did you know that most people have a color scheme that looks the best on them and around them?  It's all about your skin tone, hair and eye colors, and the way your natural coloring works together.
In general, your color scheme will usually align with one of the four seasons.  Some people have two seasonal color schemes that work well for them (usually opposites such as Summer and Winter), and most of us have at least one of the color schemes that looks TERRIBLE on us and around us.

Here is an example of a little boy (my son) who is definitely an AUTUMN.

Notice that the colors he is wearing and the natural autumn background just seem to work perfectly with his features.  That is how you know you have found your seasonal color scheme!

Knowledge of your best colors can go a long way toward choosing good clothing, backgrounds, and lighting for great quality portraits of you or your family.  In Roswell, NM, we have great opportunities to take photographs and portraits in all four seasons!
